The Global Trade Centre (GTC), launched its first landmark city complex in Kenya. It will redefine Nairobi’s skyline presenting “a dream city and community” in East Africa. The Global Trade Centre includes the Avic Towers which sit on 7.5 acres at the intersection of Waiyaki Way and Chiromo Lane – bordering Villa Rosa Kempinski, Mirage Towers, and ARM Towers. Through Avic International Real Estate Kenya, the firm is setting up the construction of a mixed-use property that is well underway in Nairobi.

The 47-story mixed-use building by Chinese state-owned aerospace and defence company, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC International), is expected to cost up to Sh40 billion in construction and other related costs. It comprises six towers: a 47-level 3A plus Office Tower, a 35-level hotel tower that will host the luxury US Chain JW Marriott and four residential unit towers of 24 to 28 levels. The GTC tower will host the headquarters of the Chinese company and will be complete by 2020.

The development also includes a 4-level boutique mall on the western side of Chiromo Lane. The mall is connected to a 5-level podium on the side of the lane by a 2-level bridge. The construction of the project commenced in July 2015. Avic has investments in different sectors such as aviation, consumer goods and real estate.

“Thanks to the contribution from a strong lineup of individuals and big-name international firms, GTC manages to bring together the leading concepts in contemporary complex panning as well as the specific needs in the development of Nairobi,” Said Wang Long, the managing director of Avic Kenya. He said that the project had contributed more than Sh800 million in taxes to the government and generated about 2000 jobs. The development will boost the profile of Nairobi as a regional business hub. The GTC is A 184-metre tower which is the highest of its kind in East Africa.

The building is the tallest in Nairobi and is a major boost to Chinese Investment in the country’s real estate sector. The project met all the regulatory requirements that are necessary and plays a significant role in the continued development of Kenya’s economy. Starting from the planning phase, GTC has been a close collaboration of various globally renowned architectural teams. As a result, GTC becomes a collaborated exploration of the form of a future city and a city skyline that grows along with people’s dreams. Avic expects the development to grow into a high-quality neighbourhood that combines offices, networking, consumption and residence.
